bLOWING UP THE MAIN CHARACTER.
I decided to start reviewing anime I've watched for fun, been thinking of making reaction videos but probably won't. Just don't have the time.
I'll start with Guilty Crown which is seen as a trainwreck by all friends and people I've talked with, sans one. I was curious because to be honest I liked the character design of Inori, the heroine. I mean, she has a really slick design with very attractive features if I say so. No idea about her personality though which is the major factor that says whether a heroine will be accepted or rejected.
In this case from what I've read Inori acts like a doll and is pretty stoic. I didn't venture further because I'm trying to avoid spoiling all the fun (even though I already know she dies) but so far she looks adorable and I'm all for stoic characters.
Now we're presented with an explosive start along with a sad song which already shows this won't have a happy ending. Apparently Inori is part of the resistance and they need to bring something to stop the all evil Big Brother or something.
Overall the protagonist is weird, can see why some people told me it had a lot of emo elements as the protagonist laments what were perfectly reasonable actions like cowering when being pointed with a gun. Also how he seems to hate himself and consider he is different from others, still it's not explained which I really really hope gets an explanation later on.
Also I didn't get how he was so invested in someone he just met. At the beginning I thought the story started explaining the resistance with the protagonist already a part of it and then we would get a glimpse of how things ended that way but it seems that wasn't the case. It would be perfectly natural to not want to have anything to do with her, especially given that she was labeled a terrorist so for all he knew, perhaps the McGuffin is a bomb or something. Also I have no idea how she can be an idol and terrorist at the same time, like, do those two jobs combine well or something? XD
I also found weird that he didn't feel that worried when the police started shooting his town. I mean, doesn't he have friends or family there?
Still the music was good, the action was good and these are mecha I can enjoy as they're not fully squared bulks of missiles and metal. They look kinda modern.
Also the references, heh
